Build a Rock Garden

If you have ever seen a picture of an ancient castle, you will know that humans have used rocks as building materials for a very long time.

Well, Nature has been making use of rocks even longer than that! Rocks play an important role in directing the flow of water, deflecting strong winds, and slowing the pace of erosion by holding soil, plants and bushes in place.

You can use rocks just as Nature does – by building your own rock garden.

Here is what you will need to get started:

• Rocks of different shapes and sizes
• A variety of plants
• Soil
• A glass bowl or ceramic pot

This project might be messy. It may be a good idea to complete this activity outdoors.
